BlackBerry driver: "survive as a niche player" - Telecompaper

BlackBerry director Bert Nordberg sees opportunities for Canadian business as a niche player for a long time now the market is determined by Apple’s iPhone and devices with Google’s Android. He says in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).

According

Nordberg is housed in BlackBerry enough value thus implying the enterprise segment, the hardware business and secure communications. The company also houses according to him “subsets” that could be sold.

Nordberg said no parts, but possibly will look at separating the BBM messaging service, known as ping. BBM has 60 million users worldwide, but the service must compete with a large number of OTT players including Spotify, Viber and Facebook Messenger.

simultaneously

last month did all rumors that BlackBerry BBM was going to set up a separate company as part of a major strategic review of the business. It is also no longer excluded sales of BlackBerry, as a whole or in separate parts. BlackBerry launched in early 2013 after a year’s delay its new BlackBerry 10 platform, driven by smartphones Z10 and Q10.

Although the devices are received relatively well it seems that it is disappointing sales. In the last reported quarter knew BB10 2.7 million BlackBerry smartphones to sell 40 percent of the total number of smartphones sold. BlackBerry also left in that quarter in the middle how many subscribers the company now has something which is normally reported. Possibly, this suggests that the number of falls faster than expected.
